Khushboo Mankani Architecture

Architecture that begins with how a space feels.

Everyone has been in a room they didn’t want to leave, and that is what I design for.

“Architecture is not just about how a building looks, but how it feels, who it’s for, and how it connects to its surroundings.”

Experience

Drawn inside a Mumbai practice.

Jaali details for a Dadar tower, massing for a 200-metre tower in Kandivali, a resort above the Ganges: six months at Studio Emergence, then Practice Design.

A way of seeing

  1. 01

Who it’s for comes before what it looks like.

A workplace is drawn from the eight hours someone spends in one chair; a school from the walk its children make to reach it. The brief is people before it is square metres.

  2. 02

Small shifts change how a space feels.

Light, proportion, material. A school façade in Haryana was worked through four states until the arcade shaded the classrooms without taking their daylight.

  3. 03

Drawn so it can actually be built.

Structural plans, schedules, municipal submission sets: the part of the work nobody photographs, and the part that decides whether anything gets built.

What I do

Have a site, or just an idea?

Tell me about it. A conversation costs nothing and usually clarifies things.
